Champagne Brunch at The Gherkin

As part of my aspirations for 2019, I really want to say ‘yes’ to do more spontaneous things – one of those being a trip to the Gherkin last week with my friend Chloe for champagne brunch!

We bought the voucher from Virgin (with a good discount too!) and booked it for last weekend. We were seated right by the window with beautiful panoramic views over London and the river Thames; the city looked stunning in the crisp winter sunshine. The voucher included a 4-course brunch each a glass of Perrier-Joust Champagne, which of course went down an absolute treat…

The 4-course brunch started with a plate of pastries and fresh, warm sourdough bread. Whilst we nibbled on them, we looked through the menu to decide on what to order.

Chloe ordered the caesar salad to start, followed by eggs Benedict and then the chocolate ganache tart with malt ice cream and Guinness gel for dessert. Chloe is a fussy-ish eater (love you really) but they were fine about us making little changes! Like no anchovies on the caesar salad and sauce served on the side for the eggs Benedict. Chloe loved the fresh salted butter served with the warm sourdough bread, thought the eggs were cooked perfectly and wished the pudding could’ve been bigger – a gal after my own heart. <3

I ordered the smoked salmon on seeded bread with pesto and soured cream to start, followed by eggs Benedict and then the freshly-made waffle with seasonal fruit and Chantilly cream for dessert. I loved this brunch from start to finish – and it’s probably the best brunch I’ve ever had! The smoked salmon on the seeded bread was delicious, and it was my first time having eggs benedict but I really enjoyed it – I’m not usually a runny egg fan but this went down a treat. The fresh waffle with seasonal fruits was amazing, too!

Comfortably full from our brunch, we headed up to the Helix bar a couple floors up to enjoy the last of our champagne, looking over the beautiful city as it just started to warm up in the midday sun.

I had a lovely morning having brunch at the Gherkin – and I can’t wait to try some more exciting places in London to have brunch!

Wow both the view and the food look amazing! I’ve always wanted to go somewhere like this for lunch/dinner, maybe I’ll have a look into it!

The view was stunning – we were so lucky that morning! The sun looked beautiful over the London skyline 😀 I would definitely recommend it – there are some fab deals on Virgin to snap up too!
